India vs Pakistan, World Cup 2019: Sunday blockbuster

ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: With rain expected to interrupt Sunday's big-ticket clash between India and Pakistan in Manchester, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar took to social media to crack a rain joke.

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar expects rain to play spoilsport in the much-anticipated clash of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 between India and Pakistan in Manchester on Sunday. Akhtar took to social media to crack a rain joke even as millions of fans across the globe are hoping the Manchester rain gods show some mercy on the big day.
Akhtar tweeted an edited image of Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Ahmed swimming their way back to the pavilion after the toss at a flooded Old Trafford on Sunday. The match officials, in the photo that has gone viral on social media, can be seen standing on a boat.Notably, intermittent showers are predicted for Sunday in Manchester, threatening interruptions in the India-Pakistan clash. However, a washout on Sunday is unlikely.

Rain has been the major talking point in the second week of ICC Cricket World Cup in England. As many as four matches have been washed out, prompting funny and critical social media reactions from the cricket fraternity. On Thursday, the big-ticket match between India and New Zealand was abandoned without a ball being bowled in Nottingham due to rain.

While the International Cricket Council has been facing flak for scheduling, the apex body of world cricket has maintained it's impossible to have reserve days for all group-stage matches at the World Cup.The semi-finals and the final have a reserve day each.
"Factoring in a reserve day for every match at the World Cup would significantly increase the length of the tournament and practically would be extremely complex to deliver," ICC Chief Executive David Richardson had said in a statement a few days back.
"It would impact pitch preparation, team recovery and travel days, accommodation and venue availability, tournament staffing, volunteer and match officials' availability, broadcast logistics and very importantly, the spectators who in some instances travel hours to be at the game. There is also no guarantee that the reserve day would be free from rain either."
Pakistan haven't beaten India in a World Cup fixture yet and going by the recent form of the two Asian rivals, Virat Kohli's men once again start as favourites to maintain their perfect record.
