THE SIGNIFICANCE OF IRON MAN'S NEW ARMOR IN AVENGERS: ENDGAME

BY:-NEWS-360
The latest Avengers: Endgame Special Look trailer is full of tantalizing new secrets, but one thing that stuck out is how much it featured Tony Stark. Whereas the first trailer made it seem like he might not even make it back to Earth, this one shows he not only survives but reunites with Pepper Potts, makes up with Captain America, and built a new suit of Iron Man armor.

But that’s not just any Iron Man suit. It’s a very specific look for Iron Man from the comics, and it actually tells us a great deal about what might be going on with Tony in Endgame.

Iron Man’s Classic Armor:-

This armor may be new for Tony in the MCU but it actually evokes the look of his classic red and gold Mark II armor from the comics that first showed up in the early 1960s. The Mark II is very much of its time and doesn’t sport the sleek look that we associate with Iron Man today. In fact, if you look closely, there’s a strange mix of human physiology and mechanical parts, as if Tony’s muscles are bulging out from underneath the armor.
It wasn’t until the early 2000s that Tony donned the Extremis armor which broke from the “muscle armor” aesthetic and actually looked like a suit of armor with no hint of the biceps and abs that may be underneath. There was a period where Tony had nano armor (not unlike what we see in Infinity War) but he stored it inside his body so he could suit up at a moment’s notice. It seemed cool at the time, but in hindsight, totally gross. With the success of Iron Man on the big screen, the comics soon adapted the MCU design, and the rest is history.
It’s fitting for Tony to now don the Mark II-esque armor because, in a way, he’s brought the character of Iron Man full circle. Despite all the innovations and enhancements that have gone into the armor over the years, it’s now returned to its most classic form from the comics. The breaks in the armor plating even create the illusion of muscles, especially notable on the arms, which is a sly nod to the classic design.

Time Jump

If Tony has time to invent 35 armors over the course of Endgame’s story, then that’s a pretty big sign there will be a time jump (or two). We already noticed that Black Widow’s hair has three distinct lengths throughout the many trailers and teasers -- her short, blonde Infinity War cut; a mid-length ponytail; and a long-haired red look with blonde tips -- which implies two time jumps, so Tony’s armor only reinforces that idea.
If we use some good ol’ fashioned math, then we might be able to figure out how long it took for Tony to make it to the Mark 85. If it took Tony 8 years to get from Mark 1 (made in 2010) to Mark 50 (2018), then that means takes him just under 2 months to invent a new armor, on average. So that means it’d take him about 5.5 years to make 35 armors and reach Mark 85.
There are obviously a ton of factors that could throw off this math and influence Tony’s armor-making progress, so we shouldn’t take this number as anything more than a rough guesstimate, but it does give us at least some idea of how far into the future Iron Man may travel over the course of the movie.

Time Travel

Speaking of traveling into the future, there’s always the possibility that the Avengers will use the time vortexes of the Quantum Realm and/or the Time Stone to literally jump through time. Who’s to say they couldn’t go into the far future and meet their future selves? We’re going into fan-fiction levels of guesswork here, but what if after losing to Thanos in Infinity War, Tony spends his years working to build a new suit of armor that can not just draw a single drop of blood out of Thanos but actually kill him this time? Then, when Present Tony meets Future Tony, he’s given this futuristic Thanos Buster armor to take back in time and kill the Mad Titan at the opportune moment. Like we said, it’s out there, but given the number of unknown factors about this movie, anything could happen.
